Frequently asked

Questions, answered

What is La Kova?

La Kova designs and builds bespoke kitchens, wardrobes, vanities and storage for homes in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai. It is the sister brand of Wood & Metal, under the same ownership, and everything is made in the Wood & Metal factory in Bangalore by the same people, on the same machines.

How is La Kova different from Wood & Metal?

The two share owners, a factory and a quality team, but not a brief. Wood & Metal makes solid-wood interiors, doors and timber joinery. La Kova makes cabinetry: kitchens, wardrobes, vanities and storage in plywood, natural veneer, lacquered glass, acrylic and laminate.

Where are La Kova kitchens and wardrobes made?

In the Wood & Metal factory in Bangalore. Panels are cut on CNC routers, every exposed edge is sealed on precision edge-banding machines, and the same quality team that checks Wood & Metal work inspects each unit, so the edges arrive finished rather than being glued by hand on site.

Which cities does La Kova work in?

We work with homeowners, architects and interior designers in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai. We are in Sadashivanagar, Bangalore, and in Hyderabad, and the factory is in Bangalore. If your project is somewhere else, get in touch and we will tell you straight away whether we can take it on.

Are La Kova kitchens modular?

They are built the way the best modular kitchens are: cut by CNC in a factory, edge-banded by machine and fitted with Blum or Hettich hardware. The difference is that nothing is chosen from a catalogue. Every cabinet is drawn and sized for your room, so the kitchen fits the walls rather than the other way round.

What kitchen layouts do you design?

L-shaped, parallel and island kitchens. Each is planned around how you cook and what you store, with pull-out larders, tandem drawers and corner units designed in from the first drawing rather than added once the cabinets are already built.

Do you make wardrobes and walk-in closets?

Yes. We build hinged and sliding-shutter wardrobes, walk-in closets and dressing rooms in plywood, with natural veneer, acrylic, lacquered glass or laminate shutters. Inside, soft-close drawers, hanging rails and lofts are laid out around what you actually own.

Do you make vanities and storage units?

Yes. Alongside kitchens and wardrobes we make bathroom vanities and storage units for any room, in the same plywood, finishes and hardware, and to the same factory finish.

What plywood does La Kova use?

Every cabinet body is built on calibrated boiling-water-resistant plywood, the BWR and BWP grades often sold as marine plywood. It resists the sagging, swelling and rot that local blockboard suffers when a sink leaks or the air turns humid, which is why it belongs in a kitchen.

What is factory edge-banding, and why does it matter?

Edge-banding seals the raw edge of every panel. We do it on precision machines in the factory instead of gluing strips by hand on site, so the edges are straight, tight and sealed all round. That stops water getting into the plywood and edges peeling, two of the most common complaints about carpenter-made kitchens.

Which finishes can I choose from?

Natural wood veneers, PU-lacquered glass, anti-fingerprint matte acrylic and laminates. Veneer gives real grain, lacquered glass a deep wipe-clean gloss, matte acrylic a smooth face that does not hold fingerprints, and laminate the hardest-wearing surface for the least money.

Acrylic or laminate: which is better for a kitchen?

It depends on the look and the budget. Acrylic gives a seamless, high-end face, and anti-fingerprint matte acrylic keeps it looking clean. Laminate costs noticeably less and stands up well to heat, scratches and daily cooking. A common approach is acrylic on the tall and wall units and laminate where wear is heaviest.

What hardware do you use?

Hardware to Blum and Hettich standards: soft-close hinges and drawers, tandem drawer boxes, pull-out larders and hidden corner solutions. It is the part of a kitchen you touch every day, so it is the last place to save money.

How does a La Kova project work?

We measure the room, design it with you in 3D, and send those files straight to the CNC machines in the factory, so what is cut is exactly what was drawn, with no redrawing in between. The cabinetry is edge-banded and checked in the factory, then fitted in your home by our own team.

Why choose a factory-made kitchen over one built by a carpenter on site?

Precision and consistency. A carpenter-made kitchen is cut and glued by hand in your home, often on local blockboard, and it is only as good as one person on one week. Factory cabinetry is cut by CNC, edge-banded by machine and built on calibrated plywood, so every panel matches and far less depends on work done in your home.

Do you work with interior designers and architects?

Yes, and much of our work comes that way. We build to your CAD and 3D drawings, send back shop drawings for you to mark up before anything is cut, and plan delivery around your site programme. You keep the client relationship; we are the manufacturing partner behind it.

Can you manufacture to our designs as an OEM partner?

Yes. Interior designers and fit-out firms can send us their own designs and we manufacture them in the Bangalore factory, translating the drawings directly into CNC cutting files so the finished cabinetry matches the specification exactly. Send the drawings through the contact page and we will come back to you.
