PLACEHOLDER COPY. The architect wanted the two floors to feel like one house rather than a main kitchen and an afterthought upstairs. That meant matching timber across a twenty week build, so we bought the walnut for both at the same time and stored it together.
The upstairs kitchen is a third of the footprint. Rather than shrink every element, we cut the number of elements: one run, one tall unit, no island. It reads as the same language spoken more quietly.
Both floors use the same door thickness, the same shadow gap and the same brass. Standing on the stairs you can see a piece of each, which is the only place the match is genuinely tested.
