Banjara Hills Dressing Room, principal view

PLACEHOLDER COPY. Older houses in this part of the city rarely give you a square room, and this one gave us four walls that disagreed with each other by up to eighteen millimetres. Every carcase was cut to its own dimension.

The fronts are teak. The insides are cedar, left unfinished, because cedar does something for stored clothing that no finish improves on and because the smell when you open a door is half the point of a dressing room.

Drawers run on wooden slides, waxed. In fifty years someone with a plane can re-cut them. That is not true of a metal runner, which will be out of production long before the wardrobe is finished with.
